Business, Computer & Information Technology - Teacher Certification
Bachelor of Science in Business Education
The Department of Education offers a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Business Education. The RMU Business, Computer and Information Technology (BCIT) Teacher Education Program Mission and Standards comply with the Pennsylvania Department of Education General Standards and Specific Program Guidelines for BCIT Teacher Education.
Upon successful completion of this undergraduate degree program, the teacher candidate applies to the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) for K-12 teacher certification in Business, Computer and Information Technology (BCIT).
The handbook to use for BCIT is here. The coordinator for the program is Dr. Richard Fuller.
A complete list of courses that you must complete to graduate with a B.S. degree in Business Education and to apply for a Pennsylvania Instructional I Certificate to teach grades K through 12 in your content area is provided in the Program of Study document. This document also provides the suggested sequencing of required courses.

Teacher Certification Requirements
In addition to the course requirements, there are a number of other program and certification requirements that each undergraduate education student must fulfill for the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) to grant a Pennsylvania Instructional I Teaching Certificate. These include field experiences, clearances, state testing requirements, applications for candidacy status and then for student teaching, a semester of student teaching, the professional portfolio, and an application for certification.
The steps are outlined in the undergraduate Teacher Education Progress Process (TEPP).
Click here to view the requirements for admission into RMU as a freshman, and click here for the requirements for admission as a transfer student. Initial admission to an undergraduate education degree program as a freshman student, or as a transfer student with less than 48 credits, is not a guarantee of formal admission to candidate status in an education program. All education majors must apply for formal admission to candidate status in their degree program following the completion of 48 credits of college-level work. Specific grade point average, course specifications, and other requirements must be met at that time.
This undergraduate degree program is offered at Moon Township Campus only.
