Instructional Technology Certification Program

RMU's Instructional Technology Specialist Certification preparation program is designed for individuals who wish to apply their skills and interests in technology to a school setting. Students completing this program and passing any required state tests may apply for certification as an instructional technology specialist for grades K-12 from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The Instructional Technology Specialist Certification Preparation program focuses on the improvement of the learning process and instruction through the use of appropriate instructional media. The program prepares you to diffuse and manage instructional technology, support instructional technology planning efforts, integrate technology into the curriculum, teach media and technological literacy, establish partnerships to support the use of technology and establish priorities related to technology.

 The  checksheet for the program can be viewed here .  Candidates enrolled in the Instructional Technology Specialist Certification program are required to take 18 credits:

Core Requirements:  (12 credits)

EDUC6060 Curr Design/Assessment (3 credits)
EDUC6100 Dev Instr Materls Using Softwr (3 credits)
EDUC6110 Integrting Instructional  Techn (3 credits)
*EDUC7903 Instruct Tech Specialst Intern (3 credits) 

Select One:  (3 credits)

EDUC6030 Intro Theory/Pract On-Line Ed (3 credits)
EDUC6210 Web Development for Educators (3 credits)
EDUC6224 Digital Video Prod For Tchers(3 credits)

Select One:  (3 credits)

EDUC6120 Instructional Leadership/Management (3 credits)
EDUC6125 Instructional Leadership/Organizational Learning (3 credits)

In addition, the student must meet the requirements/competencies for the following courses:

EDUC6010 Theory Learn/Classroom Mgmt (3 credits)
SPED 6080 Special Learning Needs (3 credits)
SPED 6085 Principles of Inclusion (3 credits)
EDUC6400 Reading Across Curriculum/ELL (3 credits)


*EDUC7903 is  a n 80-hour internship in a school setting under the guidance of a mentor faculty member.
